It's back to school... there's no escaping it! After basking in the sun all summer, counting shooting stars and jumping in the water, it's time for the kids to go back to school. Between the list of school supplies to complete, the vacations coming to an end and the return of the famous LUNCHS, there are still a few things to plan. What, you haven't thought of it yet? Here are our essentials!
If your child is an elementary school student, you will probably need 2 pairs of shoes…and they should fit the school’s exact requirements.
To choose sneakers that won’t mark the gym floor, choose a white or light-colored sole. Take advantage of the end of summer sales to save money by buying early!
By choosing quality shoes, you are choosing peace of mind… Choose leather and neutral colors to match with many different outfits. For toddlers, consider shoes with velcro or no laces to ease the transition between different pairs of shoes.
Think it’s too early to talk about cold rain? Summer isn’t over yet, but it’s the best time to gear up for the grey days of fall. To avoid size shortages and to make sure you have THE model that will please your child who already knows EXACTLY what he or she wants to wear, we’re going to start buying raincoats and rain boots now!
– Containers, snack bags and thermos
Because yes, it is highly likely that a family member will lose/forget their dish/thermos/snack bag this year. It’s unavoidable, even if you identify them, it’s the same every year. To avoid running out of a dish or thermos on a nice Thursday night (you know, that famous dish that fits in the lunch box) buy several of the same model. You’ll always have one on hand!
– A water bottle
To save the kids the trip from the classroom to the refreshment stand, give them a bottle that they can have on hand at all times. Choose a nice water bottle that will motivate the children to stay hydrated during the day. Get one for yourself too while you’re at it 🙂
– Efficiently stored snacks
Do your kids eat a lot of snacks during the day? Whether it’s for school or the weekend, buy several ahead of time to avoid having the cupboard dry. Buying in bulk? Use pouches that you will prepare together on the weekend for the week ahead. It’s a simple way to get the kids involved in the back-to-school routine.
Then organize the snacks by day or by child. This way they can manage how much they eat and choose what they want each day.
At the end of the school year, you put everyone’s backpacks away in the closet, promising to replace them when you have time this summer. Surprise! That time is now!
– A well laid out office
Children need peace and quiet to concentrate, this is not new. Do they have their own space to complete homework? Think about creating a small, efficient study area to maximize the time spent on homework and lessons. No more time wasted looking for school supplies to do homework!
– A chart for family organization
Do you use this method? If you’re a fan of lists and organization, you’re probably familiar with this method. For the rest of us, welcome to the world of the organized family! Using a wall chart, you can record each child’s sports practices, medical appointments, special daycare days, etc. The whole family can keep track of the weeks and what’s coming up for each child. You can also opt for a simpler board where you write messages to the kids or tasks to do for the week. You’re welcome!
– Routine planners for younger children
For children, it’s not always easy to understand how much time is needed to get to the bus, 10 minutes to get dressed, 2 minutes to brush their teeth… To help them situate themselves in time and develop their autonomy, routine planners are a great ally. There are several different models depending on your objective.
